One militant was killed by the government forces in the first gunfight of the year that broke out in Mandoora village of Tral on Friday.

“One unidentified terrorist killed,” the police tweeted. “Operation going on. Further details shall follow.”

A joint team of Police, army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

Unidentified officials told a local news agency, (Kashmir News Observer) said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated triggering a gunfight.

As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area. (KNO)
