Srinagar: One “unidentified militant” has been killed in the on going gunfight between the suspected militants and government forces in Wangam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A police spokesperson confirmed the killing in a tweet posted on the Jammu and Kashmir’s official Twitter handle.

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: 01 #unidentified #terrorist killed. Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” the police said.

Earlier a joint team of Police, Army’s 34RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Wangam.

As the joint team of forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.

As per the sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped.

Pertinently, this is third encounter of the month in Shopian district.
