Miscreants chopped off over 100 apple trees at an orchard at Gushi village of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The orchard belongs to one Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Gushi Hathmulla village of frontier district Kupwara.

Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the victim Ghulam Ahmed Bhat son of Abdul Rahim approached police station Kupwara to lodge the complaint.

They said in his complaint the victim has stated that during the intervening night of May 11 and 12, unknown persons axed 120 apple trees in his orchard, located at Gushi village.

An official said that prima facie it seems to be a case of personal rivalry. “A formal case stands registered and investigation has been set into motion,” he told KNT.

The axing of apple trees by miscreants is not uncommon in Kashmir Valley. Dozens of such incidents have been reported in past across Valley. (KNT)
