On International Women’s Day, a Bharatiya Janata Party’s female member of parliament demanded the celebration of International Men’s Day in the upper house of the parliament.

Sonal Mansingh, a Rajya Sabha member and a renowned Indian classical dancer, said that “I demand that International Men’s Day should also be celebrated.” Her statements invoked laughter among the other members present on Monday.

However, International Men’s Day is celebrated on 19 November, to mark the positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. 

On Monday, the world celebrated International Women’s Day, first recognised by the United Nations in 1977, that emerged following the activities of labour movements in North America and Europe.
