Shivangi Goyal, a resident of Pilkhuwa, Hapur in Uttar Pradesh has secured 177th rank in UPSC, media reports said.

However, her journey to success has been very difficult, being married and with a 7-year-old child.

Braving all odds, Shivangi’s journey to success was similar to a situation faced by many women across the world, filled with instances of domestic abuse and harassment by her in-laws.

Amid all the suffering she cleared the UPSC exam while a divorce case with her husband is going on, The India Times report said.

According to India Today, Goyal revealed that she wanted to become an IAS officer even before marriage, but had failed in two attempts. After she got married, she recounts, she was abused at her in-laws’ place and was subjected to domestic violence.

Getting fed up with the harassment, she eventually returned to her maternal home with her daughter and her divorce case is currently in court.

Upon her return, she said, her father encouraged her to do something again and that’s when she thought of preparing for the UPSC exam again and giving one more attempt.

Shivangi added that she had been dreaming of this day since she was a kid and finally it has dawned.
