At least five men wearing helmets attempted to loot cash from an ATM in Mehjoor Nagar area of Srinagar city.

The incident occurred during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

The unidentified men damaged the State Bank of India ATM completely but were unable to find the cash.

Talking to a local news agency, Kashmir News Trust the ATM Guard Sameer Ahmed said that around 2am, at least five helmet borne youth barged into the ATM.

“They were carrying knives and threatened me of dire consequences in case i open my mouth. Some of them beat me up and lodged me in a small resting room. They damaged the ATM completely but couldn’t find the cash,” Sameer Ahmed said.

He said they tried hard to steal the cash but failed in their attempt. “After failing to find the cash, they left the ATM,” he said adding that he informed the authorities about the incident.

When contacted, a concerned police officer said that no such incident was reported by anyone from the bank at police station. “The ATM Guard should report the incident so that we can act and nab the culprits,” he said. (KNT)
