Vendors in Srinagar are worried about their livelihood as authorities in Srinagar have intensified “anti-encroachment” drive against street vendors and shopkeepers “encroaching” roads.

Vendors said that the city lacks vending zones due to which they are forced to set their carts on roadsides. They appeal to authorities to provide them proper vending zones so that they are not left to starve and face humiliation.

However, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan said that they do not want to hit anyone’s livelihood rather try to make the city free from encroachers. “Process to allot vending zone to the genuine vendors is on. Spaces have been provided to several vendors earlier but despite that, they try to encroach roads that will not be born,” he said. Reported by- Umer Asif Edited by- Tanweer Ahmad
