Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an on-going encounter between the government forces and militants in Shaar Shali village of Khrew in Pulwama, south Kashmir.

A senior police official told that two militants have been killed and the operation is still on in the area. He added that operation, which was halted during the night time, resumed on Wednesday morning “after evacuation of all civilians to safer places.”

Earlier an official had told that following the specific inputs about the presence of militants, a cordon and search operation was launched in the area by a joint team of the government forces including 50 Rashtriya Rifles of the army, Central Reserve Police Force, and Awantipora Police.

After forces zeroed in towards a suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon forces which was retaliated, triggering an encounter, he said. (KNO)
