Srinagar: A pregnant woman on Sunday died at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS), Soura, while her family has alleged medical negligence on part of the hospital authorities.

The woman identified as Khanday Ulfat Jan, 25, wife of Jan Mohammad, a resident of Ganderbal, who was admitted to the maternity section of SKIMS on Saturday evening died today afternoon.

Her cousin Sajad Ahmad told a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that they brought her to SKIMS last evening, however, there was no improvement in her condition.

Later, doctors claimed that due to abortion and some other issues, she had a tumor, which had ruptured inside her body,” he said.

He questioned that if she had some critical issue, then why wasn’t she instantly treated as only a junior resident doctor was treating her.

Meanwhile, her family members demanded the matter be investigated and strict action must be taken against those involved.

When contacted the Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan told KNO that a committee has been constituted to enquire about the matter.

He said the committee has been directed to submit the report within five days and if anyone is found involved action as per law will be taken. (KNO)
