The meteorological department on Thursday said there are chances of snowfall in the Kashmir region on Sunday and later next week but the intensity will not be as harsh as during the previous spells.
An official of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the weather is expected to deteriorate on Sunday evening and there are chances of light snowfall in Kashmir region.
There is expected to be a respite on Monday followed by the possibility of more snow on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Between 2 and 3 February, there is a possibility of light snowfall in Kashmir and Peerpanjal regions,” the official said.
He said that there is a minor Western Disturbance storm system approaching the region and it will not have much effect. The expected light snowfall on Sunday and later next week will be the third spell this winter.
Kashmir is in the last week of Chillai Kalan, the forty-day period of extreme cold which starts on 21 December.
This season has witnessed a severe winter as temperatures in the valley witnessed a record low of 29 years.
