Srinagar: A fierce gunfight has resumed in Sugoo area of Shopian, a few hours after three militants were killed on Wednesday.

Quoting unnamed official sources, a local news agency, Global News Agency, reported that a joint team of the police, Central Reserve Police Force, and the army started searches after a lull following early morning gunfight, there was fresh firing from the militants hiding in the vast orchard. When this report was filed, the firefight was going on.

Earlier, a joint team of the police, the army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifle, and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Sugoo Hendhama.

As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off a gunfight in which three militants were killed. “There was a lull for quite some time and the joint team had started searches to recover the bodies. However suddenly militants again opened fire which was retaliated,” they said. “The firefight is going on,” they added. (GNS)
