The Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have recovered a kidnapped minor girl and arrested the accused person involved in the commission of crime.

In a statement, a spokesperson said, “On 25/04/2021, PS Kulgam received a complaint from a person stating there in that his daughter (name withheld) had been kidnapped by one person namely Sanik Ahmad Khanday son of Abdul Rashid Khanday resident of Tarigam.”

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 62/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was initiated, the statement added.

During the course of investigation a team headed by SHO PS Kulgam was constituted. Acting on specific leads, the team was able to recover the kidnapped girl and arrest the accused person. He has been shifted to PS Kulgam where he remains in custody, it further said.

After fulfilling all medico-legal formalities, the girl has been handed over to her legal heirs. Investigation into the matter is in progress.

Swift action by police against anti-social elements has been appreciated by the locals. Community members are requested to cooperate with police in curbing social crimes in their neighbourhood, the communique said.
