Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a local person who was tasked to carry out grenade explosions in Jammu city, police said Monday.

In a statement issued to the press, police said that a civilian identified as Muhammad Ashraf S/O Ghulam Din R/O Lar, Mahore, Reasi A/P Peerbagh colony, Sunjawan, Jammu. “Two hand grenades were recovered from his possession,” he said.

“On 27 December, a naka was laid by Jammu Police at NHW bye Pass road and routine checking of vehicles was done. Late in the evening at 1930hrs, a man roaming suspiciously tried to flee away from the naka on seeing police personnel, and was apprehended from whom two hand grenades were recovered, concealed in a bag he was carrying,” it said. “A case FIR No.95/2020 u/s2/5 explosive substance act, 18, 38, 39 UAPA is registered in PS Bagh-e-Bahu.”

The statement further said the arrested person who is linked with the Lashkar militant outfit was tasked by the handlers from across the border to carry out grenade blasts in the city. “The handler across was in contact with more terror operatives whose search is in progress. With the timely action by #Jammu Police, possible militant attacks in #Jammu City has been averted,” the statement said—(KNO)
