Tanveer Ahmed Khan, a resident of Nigeenpura Kund village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has secured the second rank in the Indian Economic Services (IES) 2020.

Khan is the first from the Kashmir valley to achieve this feat. IES examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

UPSC released results for IES and Indian Statistical Services yesterday. While 50 candidates were selected for the Indian Statistical Service, the number of candidates selected for the Indian Economic Services were just 15.

Taking cognizance of Khan’s achievement, the Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Manoj Sinha congratulated him via his Twitter Handle.

The LG said that Khan’s accomplishment will inspire Kashmir’s youth and motivate youngsters. “I have always believed that the youth of J&K is inherently capable & full of potential” the lieutenant governor tweeted.

Mehbooba Mufti, president of the People’ Democratic Party and a former Chief Minister also congratulated Khan on his achievement
