The mandatory Ramzan Taraweeh (night prayers) prayers were offered at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on Saturday for the first time since 2019.
Reports said that people in large numbers offered prayers including Taraweeh in Masjids and without maintaining social distance as Covid-19 cases stay on downslide.
Earlier, Ramzan moon was sighted and reports of its sighting were received from number of places.
“The moon marking the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan has been sighted. The holy month will begin from April 3, Sunday,” J-K officials said.
Markets of summer capital Srinagar and elsewhere are expected to be thronged by a large number of people especially shops and vendors selling dates and other eatables.
