India reported 4,329 deaths in the last 24 hours, which is the highest single day toll since the pandemic began last year, taking the fatality count to 278,751.
India on Monday has recorded 2,63,533 fresh COVID-19 cases, the lowest count in the last 28 days, taking the toll to 25,228,996 in the last 24 hours.
As per the Union Health Ministry, the active cases in the country are 33,53,765 and the total recoveries are 21,596,512.
India witnessed a further decline in new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday but the daily death count continues to remain above 4,000. However, the count is believed to be vastly undercounted.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also announced on Sunday that the lockdown in the National Capital has been extended by another week till 24 May, reported NDTV.
So far, the pandemic has claimed 3,404,748 lives worldwide with 164,283,615 infected cases. The US remains the worst-hit country followed by India, Brazil, France and Turkey.
