Authorities on Wednesday imposed section 144 within Municipal limits of Srinagar, after the COVID cases surged in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the main aim is to prevent virus spread.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Choudhary while talking to the media persons said that police and other government forces have been deployed on the roads since morning to impose section 144 CrPC in letter and spirit with an aim to prevent the virus from spreading.

According to a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he said that the 50 per cent shops as per the government order are closed. He appealed the traders and shopkeepers to follow the orders in letter and spirit.

SSP Srinagar further appealed the traders and common people to follow the limitations over the assembly of people under section 144 CrPc as well.

However, he said that the rush in the public transport is a challenge as the people are still travelling in these vehicles, saying that they are trying to find a solution in this regard as well by taking the transporters on board to ensure that the rush in these vehicles is reduced.

“Our target is to prevent the virus from spreading. Police, administration, civil society and common people have to coordinate with each other as it is the only way to combat the virus at this juncture,” he said. (KNO)
