Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

“A police party under the supervision of SHO PS Sheeri Insp. Waseem Jahangir at a checkpoint established on NHW Gantamulla Colony, intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, 15 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mohammad Altaf Chopan son of Mohammad Ahsan Chopan resident of Kanispora. He was shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” a police spokesman said in a statement.

Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.

“Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said. (KNO)
