Cyber Police Station Kashmir zone recorded a major achievement yesterday as it traced stolen smartphones worth lakhs of rupees – taking the number of phones recovered this year so far to over 200.

Nearly 30 cellphones were recovered and handed over to their owners as they had filed complaints regarding loss or theft of phones at different police stations across Kashmir.

An official at the Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone Srinagar, told The Kashmir Walla that more than 200 cell phones were recovered and handed over to their owners this year.

“People who lost their phones only have to submit a complaint at the nearby police station with details of the lost phone [and our team will recover it],” the official said.

“Apart from recovery of lost phones, the police station is dealing with various online frauds, scams and other cyber related crimes which are being reported to Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone on a routine basis,” the police said.

The full fledged cyber police station was established in 2019 to deal with the cyber frauds, crimes and thefts.

The Cyber Police Kashmir has special teams to investigate these crimes besides tracing missing mobile phones by using advanced technological and conventional methods.

The police station, on the directions of Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar had also launched various awareness campaigns and programs to educate the general public about contemporary online frauds and scams.
