Srinagar: An 18-year-old boy from north Kashmir’s Handwara area of Kupwara district has become the youngest victim to die from COVID-19 in the valley.

The deceased was admitted to Srinagar’s Shri Maharaj Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital a couple of days ago, where he died this morning.

Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital, Dr. Nazir Chaudhary told The Kashmir Walla that the boy had developed double pneumonia and “had a history of physical assault.” His swab-sample was collected on 13 June and he tested positive yesterday.

So far, sixty-one people have succumbed to the virus in J-K—seven from Jammu and fifty-four from Valley. With fifteen deaths, Srinagar district has recorded the most fatalities followed by eleven in Baramulla, eight in Kulgam, six in Anantnag, five each in Shopian and Kupwara, four in Jammu, two each in Pulwama and Budgam, while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Doda, Udhampur, and Rajouri.
