Army today claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by killing a militant along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the early hours today, a militant from across the LoC made an attempt to infiltrate in the Poonch sector, however the alert army troops detected him through effective use of the integrated surveillance grid, news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) quoted a defence spokesperson saying in a statement.
On being challenged by the army, a fierce gunfight ensued in which the militant was killed, the spokesperson said.
His (militant’s) body was recovered along with an AK-47 rifle, he said.
The spokesperson said that the operation is still in progress in the area.
“This action by alert army troops displays the resolve of the Indian Army to thwart any misadventure along the Line of Control,” he said.
