4 gamblers arrested in Sopore; drug peddler arrested in Awantipora: J-K Police

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested four gamblers in north Kashmir’s Tehsil Sopore and seized stake money from their possession.

Police in a statement said that following an input about gambling activities in orchards at Sangrama, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Sopore raided the gambling site and arrested four gamblers.

“They have been identified as Mohd Ramzan Bhat son of Gh Mohd Bhat resident of Arampora Sopore, Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Subhan Bhat resident of Chinkipora Sopore, Feroz Ahmad Ganie son of Mohd Maqbool Ganie resident of Hathishah Ningli and Nasrat Rasool Sofi son of Gh Rasool Sofi resident of Panjipora,” Police said.

Police said that they have also seized stake money of Rs. 1,03,000/- and playing cards from the gamblers.

“The accused have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody and a case vide FIR No. 13/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo and further investigation has been initiated,” Police said.

Meanwhile, the J-K Police also claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in south Kashmir’s Awantipora area in district Pulwama and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

Police said that the accused was identified as Nisar Ahmad Khanday son of Gh Hassan resident of Chersoo Awantipora.

“15Kgs poppy straw was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” police said.

Police said that a case vide FIR No. 19/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
