Kulgam Police have claimed to have arrested an accused of murdering a woman in south Kashmir on 10 November. The police received information that Mehmooda, whose only first name was revealed by the police in an official statement, a resident of Shurat village of Kulgam was “assaulted at her native village” and shifted to District Hospital Kulgam for treatment.

A police party rushed to District Hospital Kulgam, where they were informed that Ms. Mehbooba was brought dead.

After investigation, the Police arrested an accused involved in the commission of the crime. Taking cognizance of the case, a Special Investigating Team (SIT) under the supervision of SP Kulgam Shri Gurinderpal Singh-IPS headed by DySP Hqrs Kulgam was constituted and consequently, a case with FIR No. 203/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was initiated, mentioned the statement.

After completion of all medico legal formalities, the dead body of the deceased was handed over to her legal heirs. Officers have also arrested the accused person involved in the crime who has been identified as Ishfaq Manzoor Bohru son of Manzoor Ahmad Bohru resident of Shurat Kulgam.

“Further investigation into the matter is going on. We assure community members that police have resolved to act tough against individuals involved in criminal activities,” the statement added.
