Two Kashmiri journalists, Safina Nabi and Majid Maqbool have won the 10th edition of The Laadli Media Awards, supported by The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Both have won separate jury appreciation for their features.
The awards were announced Friday. The chief guest for this year’s award is Rekha Sharma, chairperson of the National Commission for Women, while the guest of honour is Argentina Matavel Piccin, UNFPA India representative.
As many as 75 mediapersons have received the awards this year and 18 have received jury appreciation citations for their work. The languages these winners represent are Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Oriya, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, and English.
The Laadli, a girl child campaign, is an initiative of a Mumbai-based civil society organisation, Population First, launched in 2005. The NGO works for women empowerment, gender equality and community mobilisation in the country.
