Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Srinagar-Gulmarg Road after Cheack Kowosa Magam residents blocked the road to protest against the scarcity of potable water.

The protesters, including women, alleged that the PHE department doesn’t take their grievance seriously.

The protesters blocked the road, forcing commuters to halt their vehicles for hours.

One of the protesters told news agency Kashmir News Trust that Kolekar Chinar Colony in the area is facing acute water shortage from past 10 years. He said crores have been allocated for laying a water supply scheme for the area, but only God knows where the money has gone.

“We have been deprived of drinking water from last 10 years and our children are crying for want of water. We consulted authorities but of no use. We were forced to come on the road to protest,” the protesters said.

Police and PHE officials rushed to spot and assured the protesters that their grievance will be addressed. (KNT)
