The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday said that a militant had been killed in an ongoing gunfight broke between government forces and militants in Feripora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Police while taking to their Twitter handle wrote, “#ShopianEncounterUpdate: 01 unidentified militant killed. #Operation going on. Further details shall follow.”
Earlier, an official told a local news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint of team of police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF’s 14 battalion after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area.
He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering a gunfight.
This was the second gunfight in the district in 24 hours.
