In the ongoing gunfight in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, Police on Thursday evening said that the chief of Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind has been trapped, adding that the operation is going on in the area.
Kashmir Zone Police in a tweet stated that the operation is going on in the area while the chief of a militant outfit has got trapped.
Earlier in the gunfight, the police said that three unidentified militants were killed.
“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: Chief of proscribed #terrorist outfit AGuH (JeM) trapped. #Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
On 24 May 2019, Zakir Musa, the first commander of the militant outfit, was killed in an hours-long gunfight in south Kashmir’s Tral. His successor, Hamid Lelhari, who joined ranks in 2016, was killed too, along with his two associates, on 24 October 2020.
After Lelhari’s killing, Dilbag Singh, the chief of Jammu and Kashmir Police, had said: “AGH group has been wiped out for now. But then they have overground workers network from whom some people emerge to become terrorists.”
