Srinagar: After a civilian was shot dead by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel near Kawoosa Khalisa village in Narbal area of central Kashmir’s Budgam, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said, “Shooting a civilian dead cannot be how a democracy operates.”

Taking to Twitter, the PDP further added: “Eagerness of few trigger happy individuals to replicate Delhi Police model of destruction & violence in Budgam is detestable. An enquiry should be initiated & guilty taken to task.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family,” the party wrote on Twitter. “May Allah grant Peer Mehrajuddin highest place in Jannat. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

The man was traveling in his vehicle and was fired upon by the CRPF which hit him around right shoulder and chest.

The man was identified as Mehrajudin Shah, son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah and a resident of Makhama Beerwah, Budgam. He was referred to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital in Srinagar in critical condition. However, he was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
