Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has hailed Kashmir born Sameera Fazili’s pick as Deputy Director of National Economic Council by the Biden administration.
Taking to her Twitter handle, the Chennai-born Jayapal said, “Sameera Fazili is a great pick for Deputy Director of the National Economic Council. I have worked with her before and know her to be an excellent thinker and fierce supporter of justice and human rights. Congratulations!”
Notably, Jayapal was critical of India’s policies in Jammu and Kashmir and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
She was re-elected for the US House of Representatives for the third consecutive term in 2020.
Jayapal, from the Democratic Party, defeated Republican Craig Keller by a massive 70 percentage points in the Seventh Congressional District of Washington State.
She was the first Indian-American woman to be elected to the US House of Representatives in 2016.
Jayapal was the second Indian-American to have been declared elected to the House of Representatives. Raja Krishnamoorthi, also from the Democratic Party, romped home easily from Illinois.
