Srinagar: The clashes between civilians and the government forces erupted near the gunfight site where Hizbul Mujahideen operational commander-in-chief, Riyaz Naikoo, was killed today.
After the joint party of the government forces recovered bodies of two militants — Naikoo and his associate — “search continues,” says Central Reserve Police Forces’ (CRPF) official, reported ANI. “Heavy stone pelting going on.”
Naikoo and his associate were killed in a gunfight with a joint team of police, army, and CRPF in Beighpora village of Pulwama, south Kashmir.
The joint team had launched a search operation in Beighpora area, Naikoo’s hometown, late last night. As they zeroed in on the particular house, officials said, the militants opened fire which was retaliated, triggering off an encounter, in which two militants including Naikoo and his aide Adil were killed.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, confirmed that the killing of Naikoo and his associate in the gunfight. He said that the operation was still underway. (With inputs from GNS)
