Srinagar: At least fourteen civilians were injured in the clashes with the government forces near the gunfight site in Beighpora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

In the gunfight, the joint party of the army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the police killed Hizbul Mujahideen’s operational commander-in-chief, Riyaz Naikoo, and his associate, Adil.

A medico at the Department of Ophthalmology, requesting anonymity, told The Kashmir Walla that at least fourteen boys were injured by pellet-gun shots and are being treated in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital. “Two boys also received bullet injuries,” he said. “They are currently operated.”

The CRPF official had told ANI that “heavy stone pelting going on” near the gunfight site.

Naikoo, a post-graduate, carried a reward of 12 lakh rupees on his head. After the killing Yasin Itoo, the then commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, in 2017 — Naikoo was made the operational commander.
