Srinagar: Two Lashkar-i Toiba militants were killed, while as one surrendered on Friday in a gunfight in Meej area of Pampore in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.

Local news gathering agency Global News Service (GNS)  quoting unnamed officials reported that two militants were killed in an operation, while one militant surrendered. However, as of now, the identity of the slain militants couldn’t be established.

Inspector-General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told GNS that this year 09 militants have surrendered before forces during live gunfight.

Earlier, a militant surrendered while “efforts were underway to persuade another militant trapped inside,” GNS quoting unnamed officials had reported.

However, now both the militants trapped have been killed in the gunfight.

The operation was halted yesterday late evening due to darkness as it has become regular norm during a gunfight. However as the first light of the day struck, the operation was resumed, they said.

Yesterday, two civilians were injured, one of them critically who succumbed this morning in a Srinagar hospital after militants attacked the search party of security forces in Meej area of Pampore.(GNS)
