The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) on Sunday apprehended a Pakistani fishing boat with nine crew members on board and recovered an unspecified quantity of narcotics from them on Sunday night, reported India Today.
Based on intelligence inputs, the Coast Guard and ATS intercepted the boat ‘Al Haj’which had ventured into Indian waters. The boat attempted to return to Pakistan after throwing away several packets of narcotics into the sea. The packets were recovered and the ICG boat began hot pursuit of the Pakistani vessel.
The Pakistani fishing boat was capable of high speeds and the Coast Guard ship had to resort to firing to prevent their escape.
One crew member of the Pakistani vessel was injured, while two others sustained minor bruises.
ICG officials said ICGS Ankit, which was in the vicinity, was called in for help in towing the heavy fishing boat to the mainland. It is expected to reach Jakhau port in Gujarat by 3 pm today, they added.
