The Jammu and Kashmir police in Rajouri have booked in-laws of a married woman, who died under mysterious conditions, for dowry death on Sunday.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the woman identified as Sahiba Kousar (20) wife of Sajjad Ahmed, resident of Chowkian Thanda hamlet of Darhal police station jurisdiction died mysteriously today morning.

They said that the girl was admitted in GMC Rajouri by her in-laws, where she died during treatment while her in-laws informed the police that she had consumed some poisonous substance and died.

However, the family members of the girl alleged that it was a case of dowry and she was subjected to domestic violence and torture and was murdered by her in-laws.

Meanwhile, police in a statement said that during the intervening night one married lady of village Chowakian of Darhal tehsil consumed some poisonous substance and died in GMC Rajouri.

“FIR No. 68/2021 was lodged in police station Darhal U/S 304 B in this regard and Darhal police acted swiftly and arrested two persons namely Sajjad Ahmed son of Talib Mirza (husband of the deceased) and Talib Hussain son of Mohammad Shafi (father-in-law of the deceased),” police said.

The statement said that the post-mortem has been conducted and body was handed over to parents of the deceased and further investigation was going on—(KNO)
