Amid heavy snowfall and with roads still impassable in the Hajin area of north Kashmir district, a mother-to-be was forced on Wednesday to walk around 5 kilometers while nine months pregnant.

A resident of Kosumbagh Hakabra Hajin area, walked on foot from Hakabara to Safapora which is still clogged with snow, said Fayaz Ahmad, husband of the pregnant woman.

“In such a condition, she walked rather struggled for a two-hour before reaching midway to the health centre Sumbal as a vehicle was available from there (after reaching midway).”

Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Sumbal told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS) that the snow was cleared from the road stretch from Hakabara to Safapora on Tuesday. “However, more snowfall accumulated on the road and is being cleared soon.”

Dr. Muzaffar, Medical Officer Community Health Centre said that no call was received on the helpline number which has established for emergency purposes. “We would have made best efforts to reach out to the family.” (GNS)
