Srinagar: Mobile internet services, which are already restricted to 2G only, and voice calling services have been suspended in Srinagar after brief exchange of fire in Nawakadal area of Srinagar.
Internet was shut around 4am, a while after the Jammu and Kashmir police said that a gunfight started between militants and government forces. Later voice calling services on all operators except BSNL were also snapped.
A joint team of police and paramilitary forces had launched cordon search operation in Nawakadal, which had led to brief exchange. However, no gunfire was reported since then.
A senior police officer was quotes by local news gathering agency – GNS, confirming the exchange of firing between the forces and militants.
