Srinagar: A 55-year-old man from Rafiabad, north Kashmir’s Baramulla, who was suffering from malignancy and was tested positive for COVID-19, died today in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS).

The death toll due to COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir mounted to seventeen after his death. Dr. G H Yatoo, nodal officer for coronavirus control measures at SKIMS, Soura, told that the 55-year-old man died at the tertiary care hospital this morning.

With the death, the overall fatality count due to the disease has gone up to seventeen in J-K—fifteen in Kashmir and two in Jammu. The middle-aged person’s death comes a day after the Valley saw highest single-day spike in deaths with three elderly patients, all from south Kashmir, becoming victims of the COVID-19.

So far, Srinagar district has reported five of the deaths, highest in any district, followed by four in Baramulla, three in Anantnag, while one death each has been reported in Bandipora, Budgam, Kulgam, Udhampur, and Jammu. (GNS)
