Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti, who was shifted to her residence on Monday after remaining in detention for eight months, “will approach all stakeholders for a joint strategy on Article 370 to move forward after restrictions on her are lifted.”
The same was tweeted by from her account, currently handled by her daughter Iltija Mufti. “When restrictions are finally lifted on Ms Mufti, she will approach all stakeholders for a joint strategy to move forward. She will also speak to the press about her views on what transpired post 5th August.”
The statement came after two other mainstream political leaders, Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah of National Conference, chose to not talk about the abrogation of Article 370 after their release.
In another tweet, quoting her mother, Iltija wrote, “Meanwhile, Ms Mufti urges GOI to immediately release all detainees including political leadership jailed in & outside J&K immediately.”
Talking about her mother’s current detention, she wrote, “Ms Mufti is home but still booked under PSA. Media wasn’t c illegal abrogation of Article 370? Time doesn’t change facts or erase a betrayal etched in memory,”
She also hit out at the centre, “We the people of J&K aren’t allowed to voice our dissent on the unilateral decision to dismember J&K. But top leadership in the country can keep using Article 370 abrogation as political bait.”
Opposing a move that seeks to obliterate our identity has been criminalised. But you can’t wish away the resentment & alienation people feel by criminalising a debate about illegal abrogation of Article 370,” she concluded.
Ms. Mufti was released from Hari Niwas and shifted to her fairview residence in Srinagar, her PSA detention, however, wasn’t revoked.
