Srinagar: The chief of Pakistan Army Staff General Qamer Jawed Bajwa on Thursday said that the people of Kashmir and of the region “deserve peace”.
The Pakistani general made the remarks during a visit to the Lahore Garrison, a statement by Inter-Services Public Relations said, The News International reported.
The newspaper reported that General Bajwa apprised the garrison’s officers of the latest developments on the eastern border and the situation in Kashmir.
General Bajwa reiterated Pakistan’s “firm commitment for a just resolution of Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of people of Kashmir”, The News International reported.
It is for the second time in a week that Pakistani army chief has spoken on Kashmir and urged for peace in the region.
Pakistan’s Army Chief had yesterday attempted to strike peace chord with India and said that Islamabad is “firmly committed to the ideal of mutual respect and peaceful co-existence”. He had also emphasised resolving the “long-standing issue of Jammu and Kashmir”.
