Srinagar: Basit Khan, a 20-year-old resident of Kunan village of Kupwara, north Kashmir, was beaten ruthlessly in Jaipur, Rajasthan, following a verbal argument on late night 5 February. Mr. Khan was working in an event management’s company’s catering wing and the argument started after he left a party in Harmada area of Jaipur.

After the brawl, Mr. Khan reached his rented room near Railways
Station and started vomiting. When he was taken to Sawai Mann Singh
Hospital, the doctors admitted him for internal injuries. One of
friends, Jamshed Ahmad, talking to The Kashmir Walla said, “He had
developed a blood clot in his skull due to beating and he went into
coma thereafter.”

Mr. Khan had left for Jaipur to work with his uncle, Fayaz Ahmad,
after August 2019 due to the clampdown in Kashmir Valley.

He later succumbed to his injures on late Thursday night, 6 February.
“His father died in 2010 and he was the only bread earner at home,”
said his uncle, Mr. Ahmad. “His mother doesn’t know about his death.
Right now, we are taking his body to Kashmir.”

Station House Office, Hamrana area, Ramesh Saini, confirmed the death
and said that one accused has been taken into custody.
