Fortis hospital in Delhi, a top private hospital in the country, has issued an emergency request on social media for oxygen as it runs out of the stock.

Fortis hospital in Shalimar Bagh took to Twitter saying that it is running out of oxygen. “Patients’ lives are at risk. We are running on backup, waiting for supplies since morning. We are currently suspending admissions. Request immediate assistance,” the tweet read.

India on Friday recorded 3.46 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day count in any country so far. It also saw the highest-ever single-day spike in COVID-19 related deaths with 2,624 fatalities, taking the count to over 1.89 lakh.

The hospital administration further added that the patients and attendants are being kept informed of the critical situation and  they are “trying to manage admitted patients to the best of our abilities.”

The fresh cases have taken the total number of infections in India, since the pandemic began, to over 1.66 crore. India is now the second worst-hit country. The active cases in the country are now over 2.4 million.

Across the country, the situation remains grim as over the past week, due to the unavailability of medical oxygen in hospitals many COVID-19 patients died.
