India has recorded 2,95,041 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
However, the country recorded the highest-ever single-day spike in COVID-19 related deaths with 2023 fatalities, taking the count to 1,82,553.
The fresh cases have taken the total number of infections in India, since the pandemic began, to 15,616,130. India is now the second worst-hit country. The actives cases in the country are now 2.1 million.
Meanwhile, the government said on Monday that everyone above the age of eighteen in India will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccinations from 1 May.
Following the surge, many states and Union Territories have imposed fresh restrictions in order to curb the spread of the virus.
