India has recorded 2,73,810 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest daily surge in cases.
The fresh cases have taken the total number of infections in India, since the pandemic began, to 1.5 crores. India is now the worst-hit country.
As per the Union Health Ministry, India reported 1,619 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the fatality count to 1.78 lakh. The actives cases in the country are over ten lakh.
The shortage of oxygen, medicines and vaccines have been raised by the states amid the surge in fresh cases. The number of active cases now is 19,29,329.
The surge has forced many states and Union Territories to impose fresh restrictions in order to curb the spread of the virus. Over 14 crore cases have been recorded so far and 30 lakh deaths across the globe due to the pandemic.
