India witnessed a single day spike of 16,000 COVID-19 cases on Saturday for the third consecutive day, taking the infection tally to 1,10,79,979, as per Union Health Ministry data.

In a day, 16,488 COVID-19 cases were recorded while the fatality count is 1,56,938 with 113 new deaths.

As per the health ministry’s data, the COVID-19 cases are over ten million in India. The total active cases in the country stand at 1,59,590 with a total of 1,07,63,451 recoveries.

The COVID-19 pandemic hit India in February-March 2020. The country reported a significant development as last month all the states and Union territories reported a decline in the number of active cases. The rise in cases across India is after several weeks of a decrease in COVID-19 positive cases and deaths.

The number of recoveries is 1,07,63,451, which means the national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.14 percent and the fatality rate stands at 1.42 percent.

The vaccination drive started over a month ago across the country.
