Srinagar: Emotional scenes were witnessed at the house of the two civilians in Srinagar after their bodies were handed over to the families for the proper burial.

The bodies of Muhammad Altaf Bhat and  Mudasir Gul were returned to the families around 1 am amid forces presence.

A resident of Barzulla, Muhammad Altaf Bhat, a businessman and resident of Budgam Mudasir Gul, who also ran an office in the same building, where the alleged gunfight took place, were shot dead along with Amir Ahmad Magray, a resident of Ramban and employee of Gul. The police claimed that the trio were killed along with a foreign militant Haidar.

Magray was accused to be a militant associate. As soon as Bhat’s body reached home, the family members raised hue and cry before he was taken for the last rites at the ancestral graveyard just half a kilometer from the house.

Similar scenes were witnessed at Mudasir’s home as well. Several police personnel along with senior officers were present at the graveyard and outside houses too.

As per a police official, the two bodies of Gul and Bhat were exhumed earlier today evening from Handwara graveyard, where they had been buried without presence of family members.

“Two bodies have been exhumed and sent to Srinagar under police protection,” the official told The Kashmir Walla. “The bodies will be handed over to the families and they will bury them before dawn.”

After the alleged gunfight, families of Gul, Bhat and Magray rejected the police claim that the trio had any involvement with militancy. The families continuously protested demanding the return of bodies.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has called for magisterial probe into the killings and asked for report to be submitted within 15 days.

Several political leaders, including two former chief ministers, protested against the killings and demanded the return of bodies
