Four local militants were killed in twin overnight gunfights in Drach and Moolu areas of Shopian district in southern Kashmir, Police said on Wednesday.

An official told a local news agency, Kashmir News Service (KNS), that the gunfights broke out shortly after joint government forces including the army, CRPF and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off these places following inputs about the presence of militants there.

In the Moolu operation, the official said that one militant was killed during an exchange of gunfire while the operation is still going on.

About Drach, he said that three Jash-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants were killed in the gunfight.

Meanwhile, ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that militants killed in Drach gunfight were involved in the killing of SPO and nonlocal labourer. “Killed #milltants Hanan Bin Yaqoob & Jamshed were involved in recent #killing of SPO Javed Dar on 2/10/22 at Pinglana in #Pulwama & an outside labourer from West Bengal on 24/9/22 in Pulwama: ADGP Kashmir,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
