Srinagar :Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has been released after 14 months of being under detention, government said.

The Peoples Democratic Party president was detained last year on the eve of the day of abrogation of article -370.

“Ms. Mehbooba Mufti being released,” Rohit Kansal, government spokesman said in a tweet.

Iltija Mufti who was handling the Twitter handle of her mother wrote, “As Ms Mufti’s illegal detention finally comes to an end, Id like to thank everybody who supported me in these tough times. I owe a debt of gratitude to you all. This is Iltija signing off. فی امان اﷲ May allah protect you,”

Mrs. Mehbooba was among hundreds of people detained in 2019 to thwart opposition against the Government of India’s move to scrap special status of Jammu and Kashmir the divide the state into two Union territories.
