On Sunday evening, Facebook took down the page of Kisan Ekta Morcha for a brief time, after the company claimed it went against the social media platform’s “Community Standards on spam”.
According to the farmers protesting, on Sunday, the Facebook page was blocked shortly after they live-streamed a press conference held by their representatives. The Facebook page has been sharing updates on the farmers’ protest against the Centre’s three farm laws.
However, after being blocked for a few hours, the page was restored after the widespread outrage on social media as #ZuckerbergShameOnYou trended on Twitter on Monday. Farmer leaders warned the government while addressing a press conference at the Singhu border that they will make all the toll plazas free in Haryana between 25-27 December and will hold a hunger strike on Monday.
In the press conference, they also asked people to bang utensils during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming “Mann Ki Baat” programme on 27 December. They also urged people to join them in their protest by skipping food when Kisan Diwas is celebrated on 23 December.
