Days after Kokernag gunfight, police books six including two brothers under UAPA

Police have booked six persons including two brothers under the Unlawful Activities [Prevention] Act (UAPA) and arms act in the Kokarnag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A local news gathering agency, Kashmir News Trust quoting unnamed officials from reported that in Kokarnag, police recovered a hand grenade and 14 live rounds from two persons identified as Javid Ahmed Bhat (30) and Zubair Ahmed Bhat (26), both residents of Sagam Kokarnag.

Javaid is a Tavera driver and Zubair runs his own business. On their disclosure after the recovery, police arrested 4 more persons including two brothers identified as Fareed Ahmed Mangnoo, Muzaffar Ahmed Mangnoo, labourer Zahoor Ahmed Mir, all residents of Sheikhpora Vailoo Kokarnag and Muhammad Amin Dar, also a labourer by profession and a resident of Darpora Devalgam.

Sources said that they were under the scanner after the gunfight that had broken out in Sheikhpora Vailoo Kokarnag on 11 May. Three militants Ilyas Ahmad Dar alias Sameer resident of Danwathpora Kokernag, Ubaid Shafi alias Abdullah resident of Batamaloo Srinagar and Aqib Ahmad Lone alias Sahil resident of Khandaypora Kulgam were killed in Sheikhpora that encounter.

Police have registered an FIR vide number 90/2021 under section 7/25 Arms Act, 18, 20 ULAP Act against these six persons. (KNT)
