Srinagar: Police detained fifteen devotees for offering Friday congregational prayers at a mosque here near the office of District Divisional Commissioner in Srinagar.
Dozens of people offered congregational prayers at a mosque in the Tankipora area and after the incident came in the knowdledge of the police, they arrested fifteen people for violating prohibitory orders. However, a large number of people present in the mosque managed to escape from the spot, reported a local news wire, KNT.
A police official said that people were detained for putting the lives of others at risk.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told that over 300 people offered Friday congregational prayers at a Jamia Masjid in Watrina area of Bandipora district, north Kashmir.
Witnesses added that people assembled inside the mosque and didn’t make use of public addressing system. They all offered prayers inside the mosque.
SSP Banipora, Rahul Malik, said he would look into the matter and if report proves correct, strict action will be taken against the violators. (KNT)
